an update on random shit
like literally this is going to be so random
guys i have a new laptop... my old laptop is from 2017 so it was a long time coming and i am so happy about it :DDD got the newest macbook air m3 with 16gb ram 512gb storage in STARLIGHT (light gold color) and it is soooo pretty n___n and pretty good specs for the price... so glad that one of my friend's dads has an apple employee discount lmao
i would say 2023 was my year of not listening to music lol i feel like i've truly stagnated with regards to finding new artists or even just... enjoying songs? maybe it's because i was super stressed/sad for most of the second half of 2023 :( also i no longer go to concerts because they're so expensive... so just in general idk
some good things though:
- i got into bryson tiller LMAO please don't judge me but his music is quite good...
- not to be basic but i have gotten into punjabi music... diljit dosanjh has some bangers BUT TELL ME WHY HE'S MADE SONGS WITH SAWEETIE AND SIA... like what da hale.... anyways
- i was not aware of japanese house new album until like one month ago. i like it
- oh i randomly got into MICO songs he's literally some random dude (is he filipino...) but he has some bangers fr
- dominic fike is good i guess i feel like my costaff were so into him that i got used to his stuff.. mona lisa etc etc
i also started walking around campus instead of biking this year because it's been raining too much and i hate biking in the rain. i started listening to podcasts while walking and i've been really enjoying it :)
podcasts:
- maintenance phase: it's like a podcast about fitness trends and the hosts are both really into research + debunking stuff that was claimed via bad research practices so it's cool to learn more about the history of stuff like pilates, ozempic, the keto diet, etc. and have a perspective on these practices that isn't fatphobic and weird :DD also the hosts are really funny!!! i feel like i've learned so much about random misconceptions that people tend to have about diets/exercises/etc and i'm glad that i started listening. would HIGHLY rec their ozempic or pilates episode lol
- popcast: ikyk...
- articles of interest: crys recommended this to me! it's a podcast that covers the history of different trends or issues within fashion/clothing. again, i feel like i learned a lot from this podcast... would highly rec the american ivy season especially if you're curious about the origins of the quiet luxury trend and stuff like that.
- huberman podcast: um i only listened to one episode because i'm not a sigma grindset type of dude... but the episode was on alcohol and its effects on your body + mind which was interesting to learn about :) i feel like it probably contributed to why i drank like only 2x last quarter
- acquired: ok tbf i've only listened to one episode so far and i'm only halfway through it BECAUSE THEIR PODCAST EPISODES ARE FOUR HOURS LONG... like wtf... but they cover the history behind different successful companies. i'm listening to the hermes episode rn and it's pretty interesting.... not sure if i have the stamina to listen to like. the nvidia three-parter but i am interested in their other stuff (costco!!!...) so i'll lyk
i realized i hate long hair. like i've been trying to grow it out for the 8 months or so and i'm already frustrated with so much stuff... gonna try and get it cut to shoulder length again and get a balayage because that's what makes me feel like myself the most T___T
i also realized that i have wavy hair!!! my shampoo + conditioner are not that exciting (i use trader joe's shampoo, ouai clarifying shampoo, or redken allsoft shampoo depending on my vibe) but i have gotten into trying different leave in conditioners so that my hair is more Wavy or whatever T___T it still gets absolutely fked up after i sleep but whatever...
leave in conditioners:
- ceremonia guava leave in conditioner: i love the smell of this and it's lightweight but enough for my waves
- ouai leave in conditioner: this comes in a spray bottle which i was super confused by. it's probably lighter than the ceremonia but i lowkey feel like it's not really for wavy hair / is too light... idk
- pattern leave in conditioner: i've only used this a couple times but i like it! bought a travel sized version so that i can bring it with me on vacation so we'll see how it fares in cdmx
realizing that i don't have much to say besides "i like it" lmao i still have a long ways to go before i know stuff about hair lol
i think a lot of my irl friends have gotten into perfume and that combined with van + sarcoline's dw posts have inspired me LOL. i ended up selling off my sol de janiero spray to someone in my dorm because I HATE IT (it's too overwhelming and gives me a headache omg)
also sorry i suck at describing scents lol
my perfume collection (in order of date purchased):
- replica on a date: i think this was my second fav replica sent (my favorite of ever is SPRINGTIME IN A PARK... perfect and bubblegumy and sweet) but my other fav didn't have a 10ml size so i bought this one. i bought this fall quarter when i didn't really know anything about perfume... i feel like all of the typical complaints about replica still apply (i.e. the fact that the scent fades really fast). i feel like i don't like this scent that much anymore but it's not like bad i just am not obsessed with it n_n
- oil perfumery dupe of kilian don't be shy: this perfume literally smells like cocacola to me!!! it's so sweet and a little spicy (?) and nice but it's also the type of scent that i can't wear for too long/during the day because i get a little tired of it. it feels so strong idk??? i wear it when i go out and stuff lol but it doesn't feel like a daily wear scent for some reason n___n
- oil perfumery dupe of jo malone peony and blush suede: i'm not a 100% expert on the original frag but i love this! it's very fresh and floral feeling... i wear this pretty often because it feels pretty chill and inoffensive and i love the scent
- britney spears midnight fantasy: i bought 30ml of this off of depop LOL because people on r/perfume are always gassing up britney spears perfumes... just wanted to see what the hype was about. it's very sweet and kind of smells like blueberry shampoo or something but in a good way??? i actually really like it and wear it quite often :)
other scents i'm kind of interested in:
- byredo mojave ghost was really nice when i smelled it in store! though it felt kind of fruity and sweet when i smelled it and not woody or whatever lol. it's so expensive so i'd prob get an oil perfumery dupe if i ever really wanted it
- burberry her is really sweet and nice but i wonder if it's too sweet that i'll get fatigued with it or not
- jo malone english pear and sweet pea is my fav jo malone frag but it's not popular enough to have a 10ml travel size :( and 30ml is kinda expensive... but maybe one day... or if anyone ever dupes them i'll def buy it T_T
- ouai melrose place is what my current ouai shampoo smells like and i quite like the scent... but prob would consider the stuff above over this rn
actually don't have many updates here! i haven't been wearing makeup much... i haven't bought new concealer in a year... idk... i tried the summer fridays lip balm and it's good (i split a 3 pack with friends so that it was cheaper lol)??
hmmm... i feel like there could be a lot of updates here but it's a little boring. i did find a new sunscreen i like (isehan sunkiller sunscreen) it's lemon-scented and more of a gel texture which is a nice contrast from all of the moisturizer-like korean sunscreens that are popular rn lol. but i will say i get very shiny from the isehan sunscreen and need to blot/powder my tzone after applying
i also started using retinol + azelaic acid again but very infrequently. my skin has calmed down a lot ever since i started taking birth control which is cool. i will say that birth control sucks in terms of like. i had a month of insane mood swings and also the whole one week of placebo pills so that you can "have your period" (it's not a real period) is super weird... but whatever
ohh also the manyo bifida biome complex ampoule is truly that bitch like it's so good for skin barrier stuff and makes a noticeable difference on my skin when i use it vs when i don't. really appreciate crys for the rec! she also recced that i try a more nourishing type of toner and i really like the isntree yam root vegan milk toner so far :DDD so much better than the watery type of toners i was using before :)
duuude my post from over a year ago makes me feel nostalgic :( i miss my gym newbie era lol. over 2023, i basically peaked in going to the gym during the first half and then over the summer (due to my insane work schedule of 7am-5pm/6pm every day) i kind of fell off going super frequently/my strength was obviously down because of my sleep deprivation. then during fall quarter 2023 i didn't go as often because i was recruiting for a summer internship... and then i didn't have access to a gym while at home december 2023... so basically i felt like i was starting from scratch in 2024. v'ir nyfb tnvarq yvxr svir cbhaqf juvpu vf cebonoyl ng yrnfg cneg bs jul zl ahzoref sbe yvsgvat jrag hc... OHG V FGVYY GUVAX V'IR TBGGRA FGEBATRE
anyways, my lifts:
- squat (150 for 2 reps) (pr from last year was 145 for 3 reps) -- ok lowkey this is the most disappointing cuz i've had a lot of issues with squatting :( it felt super unnatural when i was getting back into the gym and i honestly spent like 5 weeks squatting around the same weight before starting to increase again. squatting is so scary!!! anyways
- deadlift (165 for 3 reps) (pr from last year was 120 for 3 reps) -- ok i've gotten a lot better at deadlifting and making sure i have proper form so i don't fuck up my back. i also only deadlift conventional stance because it feels super awkward in sumo n___n
- bench press (85 for 2 reps) (pr from last year was 65 for 2 reps) -- i cannot express how difficult it has been for me to progress on bench i literally bench every time i go to the gym LOL but.... i'm getting there... slowly...
- i don't really try to max out shoulder press anymore just cuz of how much i bench
umm in terms of goals for the rest of the year, hopefully i can keep being consistent spring quarter and then maintain over the summer (no clue how stressful g*ldm*n s*chs hours are gonna be lol). one thing i def want to do more of is incorporating more pullup training into my routine, i've started doing negatives and deadhangs and it's nice that (unlike when i first started going to the gym 2 years ago) i am actually capable of doing a negative and not just flopping down immediately lol
more tangible goals:
- deadlift 200 (or at least 1.5x bodyweight)
- bench press 100 (or at least 0.75x bodyweight)
- squat 175?? dude squatting is so annoying
- getting my first pullup !?
also just figuring out a better gym routine because i feel like the way i keep track of stuff right now is a little disorganized oops :)
do not ask me about books i literally be reading the most trash random shit (yes i've read every ann liang book that's been released...) (yes i read the jennette mccurdy memoir after seeing all of the nickelodeon news) :D
