MY FAVORITE NON-KPOP SHIPS

permutativeok i sort of started writing a dreamwidth post about like... umm some emotions i’ve been experiencing lately re: nctzens blowing up an fwcu post, my statements about “dreamwidth is a dead socmedia site so it’s safe to post /controversial/ takes here” being rendered null and void, the key difference between dw and tumblr being that IN TUMBLR POSTS CAN/WILL BLOW UP AND THINGS WILL GET TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT vs that not being the case on dreamwidth until u get twitter involved, etc... but then i was like why don’t i try and be positive for once.
so yeah. thank u cindy for reminding me that fandom is a source of happiness LMFAO... let’s get into this

(STAR TREK REBOOT) SULU/CHEKOV
this is a tinhatty ship that was mostly spearheaded by ao3 user hollycomb a while ago—it’s pretty much your typical “pair two white side characters who barely interact and it’ll be a popular slash ship” (think: eames/arthur, marvel shit, etc) sort of thing EXCEPT 1) SULU ISN’T WHITE 2) oh yeah this ship isn’t popular. see reason #1. lol
anyways for some reason this ship (or at least the hollycomb imagining of it which i basically take to be canon) is so personal... i think i like cultural divides/navigating different cultures and fics that explore that attempt to bridge a gap (?) or at least acknowledge that difference in backgrounds—sulu is like japanese american whereas chekov is from russia? ALSO (important to me ofc) chekov is this precocious PHYSICS GENIUS... sometimes a little stem nerd can be so personal ❤️ (sulu and chekov are both stem nerds of different flavors) (i just like when people are competent) also i kind of like age gaps sometimes even though i don’t think the age gap is that much (three years?). like sometimes a little age gap can be fun ^_^ also idk maybe i need to look into more media but SOMETHING ABOUT ACTUAL ASIAN AMERICAN CHARACTERS... yeah
(HARRY POTTER) DRACO/HARRY
obligatory mention but idk i feel like i just liked the fics and don’t actually have many emotions for the ship...? away childish things by lettered is literally the best thing ever though and it made me cry so much when i first read it. like it is SO GOOD? a little strange but mostly just amazing... also harry is BROWN. this is my headcanon and it is also my canon and i refuse to change

umm idk. haven’t read these books in like four years but YET. i think adam was another character that i was just intensely obsessed with (he was a little bit of an asshole and also STUDIOUS... what more can u ask for). also for some reason i group this ship with THE DEGRASSI NEXT GEN MILES/??? (literally forget the other guys name can u tell which character i liked more) ship. so idk i’m insane... anyways back to adam/ronan i think this ship is insanely tropey. something about “tsundere” people being secretly softhearted and being quietly devoted for each other and just being Guys who are Dudes but having tender moments and also the magical elements make it EVEN BETTER...?
okay why don’t i just talk about BLs and BL RPS aka the depths of hell while i’m at it.
actually i was thinking about this deeply and honestly... i think i might like 1000 stars phupha/tian better than itsay teh/oh-aew? maybe it’s just because we’re at a low point with ipytm right now but IDKKK. something about phupha/tian was soo cute to me whereas i feel like i value tehoh more for who they are as individuals/i like itsay’s storyline and cinematography and stuff. WBXKSIEHXNZKSI <— dude who has been looking for good 1000 stars fic only to find nothing

(1000 STARS RPF) EARTH/MIX
ummm so some context for the unaware: for thai BLs it’s pretty common for the actors to promote things as a duo and participate in adverts together and do “fanservicey” things together and it’s like. ummm. well i think BL fandom is pretty toxic but i’m also on kpop stan twitter so idk how much of a judgment i can really make... but at the same time i don’t feel great participating in this stuff because it’s like [insane BL shippers actively ruin actors personal lives] but anyways as a passive enjoyer of this stuff/someone who screams about whatever on their priv. i’m having a good time (??)
it’s so funny because i love BBB and the sort of tropes/inherent fallacies of idolhood but then THAI BL ACTOR FANSERVICE/SHENANIGANS is like :D???? to the max. like my favorite “pairings” are the ones i think are more “genuine” but it’s also obviously played up for fanservice but also they’re just straight men who are friends. kind of
ANYWAYS EARTHMIX. they starred in 1000 stars together—earth has been in a couple floppy BLs before and umm has sort of been panned for bad acting/only being Hot whereas this is mix’s first acting role... but they’ve known each other for seven years or something?! idk i just like it when PEOPLE ARE FRIENDS. also their age difference (4 yrs) is cute to me [insert ramble about why i like slight age differences] especially since mix doesn’t exactly address earth politely >.> something about the older person being a bit of a pushover is just SOOO PLEASING... also their dynamic in general is just bickering and comfortable and fun and well. obviously there are cringe fanservice moments but it’s fine. ALSO THESE MEN BOTH GOT CATS AND ARE LIKE LOWKEY COPARENTING THESE CATS TOGETHER????? i never care about pets and sort of dislike animals but ^_^ I GUESS IT’S CUTE. also not to tenderheart over earth but he’s genuinely gone thru a lot/only did acting to pay for his moms medical bills/was almost going to quit acting if 1000 stars hadn’t gone well. like idk im happy he’s finally successful!!!
(ITSAY/IPYTM/NADAO ACTORS RPF) BILLKIN/PP
half the time i call billkin bilkin like i barely know his name. anyways these two are usually called BKPP... um. the backstory behind itsay even being made is kind of insane actually. billkin and pp played these two characters that were friends in a drama called my ambulance, and thru the power of their SHIPPER FANS nadao (the production company) was like “ok we’ll make a series with the two of them” and the working title was BKPP: THE SERIES. wait actually before i go further let me just insert what i initially said about them in early may, nearly a month ago:
okay anyways. bkpp dynamic is like... again. when guys are friends. bk (harmless straight man who jokes about how handsome he is/is generally charming and talkative/seems extroverted) and pp (ambiguously fruity man who has a crush on nct lucas and other masc kpop idols/krn models, more subdued and also judgmental in the best way possible) have that bickering dynamic that i like... also again there’s something about knowing someone for a long time that just gets to me? anyways ITSAY is inspired by their actual friendship hence why they meet at a tutoring class and stuff & i’m obsessed with their IRL enemies to friends development... also pp randomly being on billkin’s ig stories back in 2017 is just too much.
also i just think it’s nice that they avoid and will straight-up REFUSE fanservice/bait-y questions? idk how much they pander to the fans with their interview responses but like the vibes i get from them are just like... they’re good coworkers/work well together/are good friends. just guys being dudes. AND IT’S LITERALLY PERFECT TO ME! I EAT THAT SHIT UP!!! um

thai bl rps literally isn’t woke at all because the actors who star together in a bl also have to promote together and then they get asked to do all of this fanservice stuff by interviewers/get asked invasive questions about their lives including stuff like “how do you feel about getting shipped by your fans” which is just like. well what. anyways i respect bk for being like “my personal life is my own business” and him valuing authenticity over fanservice and the two of them refusing to do shit when the interviewer asks them... when people are just Good Friends. when shipping Doesn’t ruin your relationships. um
