i guess it's time... time to explain WHY JAYWON!? disclaimer that i am only one person, that my perspective is flawed, and that jaywon is the perfect ship <3 ok let's get into this.

jay introduction
where do i begin with jay... he's often described as the "moodmaker" of enhypen and he contributes to a lot to the fun of enhypen variety because he's a really good sport about getting embarrassed. it's interesting because he's clearly someone who has a lot of pride, especially in terms of the work he puts into being an idol/his various hobbies, but at the same time he cares much more about the end results than how good he looks. he really has such a soft spot when it comes to the maknaes of enhypen LOL. he was voted by the rest of enhypen as the "person who'll take on unpleasant work for the sake of the team" during their leadership tests and he cares more about the "right" thing being done than actual appearances. along a similar vein, jay is extremely transparent about his emotions — during i-land, he had the tagline "resentment, anger, shame" due to how honest he was about said feelings — and who he likes/prefers to be friends with. this conversation with sunoo (π¦) during a recent vlive summarizes this pretty well:

so yeah... he basically admitted that he practices blatant favoritism on the regular and can't hide his true feelings <3 some other background about him is that he's one of the first enhypen members to join bighit, just a couple months after heeseung, so he was fairly experienced as a trainee. he also spent the first eight or so years of his life in the united states, growing up around seattle, before moving back to korea prior to third grade. given that he's spent the past decade in korea he's really not as americanized as people might think. his parents are pretty rich and imo that generosity that jay experienced via his dad as he grew up is very much reflected in his relationships with other people — jay definitely has a tendency to give people gifts, cook them food, let them stay in his house, bring them on fancy trips, etc. if he likes them. he's also an extrovert and tends to befriend people pretty easily as a result — he doesn't mind making the first move and has said that he'll approach people who are "his style."
jay has a ton of different interests, too. he's pretty well known for his interest in fashion but he has a passion for learning languages (he knows english, japanese, and french to varying degrees of proficiency along with korean) and absorbing more about the world in general. he's also a huge fanboy — he's arguably the biggest army in enhypen, which is basically an entire idol group of armys, and he also likes zayn from one direction and 2pm's taecyeon. basically... jay is pretty relatable (who hasn't been a fan of a questionable kpop group before??) and straightforward and easy to read. he also has a tendency to overthink things but part of it is just his natural intellectual interest stuff tbh.

jungwon introduction
jungwon made a lot of waves after enhypen's debut because at the time he was the Youngest Leader in Kpop or something (that title has now been displaced by miss juhyeon from lightsum! ANY VANILLA FANS? nvm). it attests to his personality that he's been able to hold his own as a leader despite being the second youngest member of enhypen. he's really levelheaded and calm when disputes are brought up, and he's thoughtful in the sense that he's really good at solving interpersonal problems and other such problems. he also looks out for other members in this really subtle way and makes sure that no one is left out? it's really sweet. on the scale of [gets teased] to [instigates teasing] in enhypen, along with niki jungwon definitely enjoys teasing the other members the most.
despite his interpersonal skills, he's actually pretty introverted/shy and mentioned that he started doing taekwondo to get better at making friends. he's often described as mature beyond his age, and i think a lot of that stems from two things β his training experience and his relationship with his grandmother. he's trained the longest out of any enhypen member (three years at sm entertainment before joining bighit in 2018), and before that he was a taekwondo athlete. he's talked about how his experiences with taekwondo and idol training led him to miss out on a lot of childhood experiences, and that he developed a close bond with his grandmother as a result. jungwon has actually picked up a lot of old-fashioned habits from his grandmother which i personally find really cute.
all of that time spent training, though, means that jungwon is adorably inexperienced in some aspects. during diy vlives he often admits that he's really bad at crafting, and he gets geographically confused too sometimes β he asked whether the united states was in europe at one point TT___TT

as of july 27 2021, jaywon have 237 fics on ao3 (#3 in the enhypen tag) and 222 fics on postype (#1 among enhypen ships overall). imo jaywon's relative popularity in korea has a lot to do with jungwon's popularity among k-fans and the way jaywon's surface-level optics fit in with k-fan left/rightisms (there are 193 μ ±μ fics and 29 μμ ± fics). but they're definitely not a rarepair by any means and jaywon is the most popular ship for both jay and jungwon so... we're somewhere. jaywon honestly seems to be afflicted with side-ship disease on ao3 though — filtering by otp: true yields that they have 55 fics on ao3 (#4 in the enhypen tag) which is sort of unfortunate. hence the purpose of this primer... late 2016: jay hears blood sweat & tears and has his mind set on joining bighit as a result. prior to this, he had been a trainee at a different agency for a short amount of time (source), said to be sm entertainment (source).

first impressions: their first meeting is legitimately so wild to me... jay has mentioned that he was immediately struck by how hardworking jungwon was, because he didn't spend time chatting with other trainees. he also lended jungwon taxi fare that day because he missed the last train home due to practicing so late (source). jungwon also said that jay stayed with him until dawn to help him with choreography, but jungwon didn't even know his name until the next day and thought of him as "taxi fee hyung" (source). do i even need to get into the significance of park "i'm not someone who embraces every person" jongseong immediately helping a trainee that doesn't even know his name and staying up until dawn for said trainee??? yeah. exactly
as trainees: jay has mentioned that he wasn't very close to jungwon as a trainee, and that their relationship was characterized by a "younger brother–older brother" dynamic — in jay's words, "more about taking care of one another than being friends." he also says that it was hard to get close to jungwon until it seemed likely that they'd debut together (source).

girlrock's enhypen timeline — please check it out if you'd like more in-depth information on any of the enhypen members.jaywon is just like... okay first of all they're pretty unique within the context of enhypen because they've been good friends since before enhypen even formed and they just... really clearly like each other? enhypen as a group doesn't really do a lot of "fanservice" and the most of the members are still getting to know each other gradually — it's been less than a year since enhypen has been formed, and dynamics are still shifting as a result. in contrast, jaywon have been pretty strong friends on the screen basically as soon as they appeared on i-land together, and haven't relented since. i also want to stress that enhypen just really don't do physical affection that much (when asked between giving a handshake, fistbump, or hug to sunoo during his birthday vlive, everyone didn't choose a hug?!) and that also really makes jaywon stand out within the group because jay is Constantly backhugging jungwon or playing with his hair or even dragging jungwon over to sit on his lap.
okay, great, so these two dudes like each other. and honestly that's not exactly an amazing basis for shipping something (sometimes unsoulmatery, coworkershipping, etc. can be even more compelling) but i think that beyond the most obvious dynamics jaywon display there are some fun layers/quirks to their relationship. in particular i think that the way jaywon navigate their age difference with each other, balancing their younger brother/older brother relationship with their more easy going friendship, is really interesting. jay has mentioned wanting to take care of jungwon on multiple occasions, yet at the same time he readily admits that he depends on jungwon for many things. jay often notes jungwon's maturity, yet at the same time jungwon is one of the people who teases jay the most. i feel like there are a lot of interesting power dynamics at play when you consider their age hierarchy, jungwon being the leader of enhypen, jay acknowledging jungwon as someone who is stronger than him both mentally and physically, jungwon's relative lack of intellectual knowledge, etc. like... they both simultaneously view the other person as someone they want to take care of (jungwon has said that jay is like a baby, jay often says jungwon is the cutest person ever) AND someone that they admire AT THE SAME TIME? those contrasts are so interesting to me!
also i think you'll be able to see from their interactions (which i'll elaborate on later) but out of jay and jungwon, jay is definitely the one who is Openly Tenderhearting at every moment possible. it might make jaywon seem a little one-sided at first — i once had that impression — but honestly once i realized how often jungwon will either a) bring jay up out of nowhere or b) tease jay (and only jay) for no reason, everything clicked. also i honestly think it's impossible to match park jongseong's levels of honesty and outward affection... jay has this approach to friendships that borders on intense and comes off as slightly one-sided by nature, but at the same time jungwon is one of the best recipients for jay's feelings because of how levelheaded and calm he is in the face of that emotional debt. like jungwon isn't fazed by anything and is sort of the perfect somewhat-serene introvert to match jay's more mercurial extroverted personality. THEIR BANTER IS LITERALLY PERFECT BTW!!!!
idk i just think that it's interesting how jay and jungwon both clearly like each other yet express it in such different ways <3 it's the perfect sort of "opposites attract" situation to me, where jungwon is a rational problem_solver whereas jay is a rational overthinker; where jungwon can lead an idol group with a level head while jay openly admits that he isn't suited for such a task; where jungwon doesn't know the location of seattle nor whether frogs have belly buttons while jay is a nerd with a crazy amount of different interests. it's about the barely-more-than-5-cm height difference and barely-less-than-two-years age difference and the ways that they meet each other in the middle T__T ok i'll calm down.
at first i was only going to do certain enhypen members and explain how they triangulate/add to the jaywon dynamic but to be quite honest... jay and jungwon are the members of enhypen who get along the best with everyone else, so they have pretty compelling relationships with all of the members. so yes for the sake of this primer i am Getting into the jaywon x [other member] triangulation. you'll see T___T
HEESEUNG: 5YEARZ/TWINZ
heeseung (π¦) has a pretty special relationship with both jay and jungwon. as the people who have trained for bighit the longest, heeseung and jay frequently talk about how they've known each other for "five years" (hence their unit name being 5λ μ¦/5yearz) and jay once said that he's seen heeseung more often than his mom... they're probably the closest duo in enhypen just due the sheer amount of history that they have with each other. heeseung and jungwon, on the other hand, didn't really get close before i-land but then clicked really easily during the show. jungwon chose to call them "twinz" because he wanted to overcome the three year age gap between him and heeseung T__T heeseung, as the eldest member of enhypen, helped jungwon a lot while he was adjusting to becoming leader and they definitely relied on each other a lot for emotional support.
anyways, in the context of jaywon, heejay and heewon are pretty interesting because you'll often see heeseung and jungwon teasing jay together, and sometimes when jay mentions relying on jungwon for support or trying to get closer to jungwon he'll mention heeseung along with that. like i'm not even going to lie i just think that heeseung and jungwon are jay's favorite people in enhypen, hence... the triangulation <3
JAKE: HE PUTS ME AT EASE (DEROGATORY)
okay so... at the moment jake (π) is jungwon's favorite enhypen member. like this is just an objective fact — yes, i might be a jaywon shipper, but i'm not delusional! hence why i ship jaywon in the first place. umm so what was i saying... to quote my enhypen dynamics post, "jungwon has mentioned multiple times that jake puts him at ease and he feels the most comfortable and relaxed around jake." which is great! like, good for him, i guess? to me one of the most telling jakewon moments is when (in response to the question of "when was the last time you lied to the other members?") jake admitted that he choses to order tteokbokki even when he doesn't like it to appease the other members and then jungwon Also admitted that even though he didn't crave tteokbokki, he lied to jake about it. like yes these two like each other and are endlessly accommodating for each other... BUT AT WHAT COST? contrast this with jay's characteristic honesty and it seems like jakewon's friendship is basically antithetical to the way park jongseong conducts his interpersonal relationships. which is um... okay i'm sorry i'll move on.
jay definitely doesn't share the same preference for jake as jungwon does. as same-aged friends and "westerners" they definitely get along, but jay has also been petty with heejake over the two of them "always making plans together" so. that's real <3 idk there aren't that many hidden depths to jayke so i am just going to move on.
i think jay is very much aware of jake's dependence and affection for jungwon. when explaining his famous "lifelines" quote (aka the time that jay said that jungwon was his lifeline during an interview, which i'll elaborate on later in this post) during a fansign, jay mentioned that during i-land jay and jake relied on jungwon a lot for emotional support. like yes, jay (of his own volition) brought up jake out of nowhere!! so there's definitely something interesting going on here but tbh it's still developing as we speak...
OKAY, BUT WHAT ABOUT SUNGSUNKI?
π niki: when the baby is babied?
i feel like i could describe jaywon as "niki's favorite people" and i wouldn't really be wrong. it's pretty mutual, too. like jay really likes doting on the people that he likes and nowhere is this illustrated more clearly than with the maknaes of enhypen (... sunoo doesn't exactly count, considering that jay and sunoo are in the same grade in school). like jay wanting to travel to japan with niki/bringing niki back to his house for the holidays can literally be so personal... i also think it's worth mentioning that jungwon and niki have an age difference of nearly two years despite being the two youngest members of enhypen. wonki tease each other a lot and have a really friendly, comfortable relationship T___T i just think jaywonki is interesting because jaywon definitely work together to look after niki a lot and niki clearly adores jaywon and [gunshot] it's sweet okay!!!
π¦ sunoo: coworkers-to-classmates
at the moment, jay, sunoo, and jungwon all go to hanlim multi art school together (jay and sunoo as third years, jungwon as a second year) so i'm just going to call them hanlimz! tbh i don't think jungwon transferring to hanlim really changed jaywon's dynamic that much since they were close to begin with... all it did was increase the amount of tmis that go along the lines of "jungwon: jay got up late for school today!" that, and jungwon making fun of jay for having a fangirl at school, i guess... no i won't get into that right at this moment. but while sunwon always had a decent friendship, sunjay definitely got a lot closer due to being classmates! sorry what was i saying... tbh i don't even think sunoo "triangulates" well with jaywon or anything like that i just think this is a good example of how jaywon appeal the most to the rest of enhypen LOL.
π§ sunghoon: honestly just vibing?
okay to be honest sunghoon and jungwon do have pretty similar personalities in some respects. they're both quite introverted, and when put together, they're honestly sort of... very low tension and withdrawn? it's really funny because sungwon have done a decent amount of unit vlives together, and often they'll be like "wow we need jay here to add the tension" LOL. despite knowing each other a decent amount predebut, though, sunghoon doesn't really have much to show for his friendship with jungwon. as for jay, well, i can't deny that they're close, but it's also like... that's jayhoon. sorry to any jayhoonists reading this; their friendship is really cute actually.
I-LAND: #BREAK_ALL_THE_EGGS AND OTHERS
i feel like one of the things that makes jaywon so great is that they were literally friends during i-land? like some people in enhypen didn't even talk to each other until the show ended, whereas with jaywon there are a couple of really foundational moments within i-land itself. for example, when jay gets sent to ground, he hugs jungwon and promises him that he'll return. do i even have to get into the haptics and proxemics of this hug... the intimacy... like seriously what the fackkk.
further, when jungwon gets negative feedback following rehearsals, the i-landers are discussing whether heeseung should switch parts with him. and then, during this Extremely high tension situation, mister park jongseong reaches his hand out towards jungwon and they have this emotional supportive handhold??

like damn jay... meanwhile all of the other i-landers are kind of adding to the stress and heeseung is just like "i don't think it's my place to offer an opinion at the moment" LOL. i just think these sort of moments of affection are especially significant in a pressure-cooker environment like i-land where most people are just fending for themselves T___T
finally, in perhaps one of the most iconic moments, jungwon had almost gotten eliminated but managed to survive (barely) to the next episode. in the aftermath, jay, jungwon, and sunghoon have the following conversation:

WEVERSE INTERVIEWS
okay moving on... for some reason weverse interviews are always primetime for JAYWONISM to shine. during the given-taken era, jay's interview went into his faith in jungwon as a leader and, as mentioned earlier, how he'd gotten closer to jungwon with time.
There weren’t many people on I-LAND who had experience being the leader, so HEESEUNG and I had no choice but to do it. That was pretty hard. I knew what I had to do and how I should manage the team, but I felt like I just didn’t have the personality for it. But anyway, seeing how strong-willed JUNGWON is, I think he’ll do a perfectly good job as he gains more experience.i'm not going to get too much into it, mostly because i already did earlier, but i do think it's cute that jay randomly brings up getting close to jungwon while he's responding a question about his friendship with heeseung LOL.
then, during his drunk-dazed era interview, jungwon got asked how he feels about jay. his response?
I can tell JAY really cares about me. Sometimes I cross a line, and I feel sorry about that. He pays close attention to details and takes care of things but there are times when he can’t keep himself awake. He’s perfect other than that. (laughs) But, you know, everyone has their flaws. I think he can overcome it. (laughs)likeeeee idk. the way that jungwon knows the extent to which jay cares for him and also acknowledges that he occasionally crosses a line (presumably through teasing him, though i guess we can't say for sure) is so important to me — like jungwon is really self-aware about his relationship with jay and can appreciate it for what it is. ALSO "he's perfect other than that"?? "that" being a habit — waking up late/being really sleepy — that jungwon loves to tease jay about on a weekly basis?? yangjungwon was crazy for this one!!!
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
i feel like jaywon are pretty unique in terms of how they've celebrated their birthdays. by pretty unique i mean that they've pretty much gone out of their ways to honor the other person's birthday in the most extra way possible?! [compared to the rest of enhypen at least] like it's crazy to me.
first of all jay cooked a steak especially for jungwon in the dorms. during this 2021.02.10 vlive, jungwon and the rest of hyungline (minus jay) discussed the steak:

on top of that, jay gifted jungwon a jacket — we don't really know that much about the details of it, but. i have reason to believe the present was pretty significant, though, first of all because... that's jay park and second of all because a month later JUNGWON'S MOM literally asked jungwon what jay wants for his birthday... like what? added aside about familial closeness — jungwon has mentioned that jay's mom's cooking is really good, and judging by the birthday gift thing it seems like their parents are familiar with each other.
moving on, i also think the social media posting surrounding jungwon's birthday was especially sweet. jay tweeted a photo of jungwon SLEEPING ON HIS LAP T__T
trans: this is jungwonβs "cute sleeping mode" that i had mentioned during the fanmeeting hehe. happy birthday to our versatile leader who is responsible & hardworking on all days & is cuter than anybody else!!! i love you, let's keep doing our best!! (source)and jungwon also took to weverse to thank jay specially for cooking the steak, stating that jay is someone who "took great care of me not even then [during jungwon's birthday] but all the time." LIKE WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN WITH ALL OF THISSS??? jay's tendency to be generous with the people he cares about shows itself so strongly here. and jay was literally willing to set the enhypen dorms on fire to cook food for jungwon's birthday... AND ON TOP OF THAT. even though jungwon Did partake in his usual teasing on that vlive wrt the steak (would it be a jaywon moment if jungwon wasn't teasing jay even a little??) he definitely appreciated the present a lot and sincerely thanked jay on weverse for it. don't even get me started on jungwon SLEEPING ON JAY'S LAP... and then JAY TAKING PICTURES OF HIM... BECAUSE JAY THINKS HE'S CUTE WHEN HE SLEEPS... if i think about it for too long then i start losing my mind </3
okay, onto jay's birthday... jungwon bought jay an AIR-FRYER. literally everything about this present is soo endearing to me and for about a month afterwards, jay would mention the air-fryer he got from jungwon on a near-daily basis. like seriously i don't think i can link to every single time the air-fryer has been mentioned... he even made it a monthly goal at the end of MAY (more than a month after his birthday) to use the air-fryer in the first place... (#&(&*% but i will get into the initial gift-giving! right before jay was about to sleep jungwon called out to jay and was like "hyung i spent some money and got you something good" and then gave him the air-fryer?? also jake said that seeing jungwon carry the air-fryer box into the apartment was really funny because of how huge the box was LOL.
and just a random cute moment, because it's semi-related: during jay's birthday vlive, he had been tasked with choosing which member's outfit he liked the best. jay proceeded to state that he's being "subjective" with who he's selecting to win approximately 500 (well, closer to four) times before choosing... you guessed it...

LIKE THERE'S SOMETHING SO AMUSING about jay being like "yes i am going to be extremely biased. not a hint of objectivity here" and the other enha members not even being surprised when he chooses jungwon over everyone else. okay so jungwon teasing jay is definitely a big part of the jaywon dynamic, and for the sake of brevity i'll refrain from linking to every single instances of an interaction that's like [jungwon teases jay] [jay smiles lovingly at jungwon] LOL. however i do want to a mention a couple of examples that are particularly close to my heart T___T
"rock chic"
jay has been teased to the end of the earth and back ever since he said that he was interested in the "rock-chic" style during a teen vogue interview. i think this clip from enhypen's december monthly review video is super funny in particular because, on top of the usual "is this a rock that's chic" related banter, jay admits the following:

like... does your fave ever watch fifteen minute compilations of him getting teased by his favorite dongsaeng? and then admit to seeing these videos on multiple occasions? like i, too, watch videos of jungwon making fun of jay... so glad that park jongseong is a relatable king in this aspect. but also WHY DOES JAY LITERALLY HAVE THE VIEWING HABITS OF A JAYWON SHIPPER???

wait now that i'm watching this video i'm realizing it also has another one of my favorite moments... aka when jungwon wins his kpop emoji guessing game and then jay starts hugging jungwon from behind and bouncing him up and down in celebration??? OUT OF NOWHERE?? okay let's get back on topic. enhypen are split into teams to prepare tteokguk (and compete to see which side made it better), and jay's taking charge of a lot of the cooking for the team with him, jungwon, heeseung, and niki. as jay's cooking, jungwon starts the following conversation:

likee idk the layers of jungwon saying that he'll protect jay from being made fun of when a) jungwon is the main person teasing jay anyways and b) jay has mentioned multiple times that he relies on jungwon for emotional support... the blurring of sincerity and levity here is just so compelling and i think it makes this moment that much more fun.
"you stole my spot"
not even going to lie the biggest crime that enhypen&hi ever committed was using this jaywon footage in their CHARACTER TEASER but then not even including it in the show itself...? the clip was used to show that jay's "easy-going characteristics" make him funny. basically, jungwon started lying down in jay's spot in the sleeping bags, so jay reminded him that it was his spot. in response, jungwon said that "there's no such thing as your spot" LOL. then jay, LIKE THE MADMAN HE IS, goes over and starts TICKLING/HUGGING JUNGWON to try and get him out of his sleeping bag?? it's just so clear how much fun both of them are having and their smiles are infectious tbh :')))

yes, another series of interview shenanigans. first, here's an excerpt from jay's interview about adventure:

like already this is So Much. JUNGWON IS JAY'S "LIFELINE"? JUNGWON IS "PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY STRONGER THAN" JAY... AND MOST OF ALL CUTE?? JUNGWON DOESN'T THINK HE'D "EVER GET BORED" IF HE'S WITH JAY??? btw i feel like these passages also do a good job of illustrating the different ways in which jay and jungwon depend on each other... like yes jay thinks that jungwon is the cutest person ever and simultaneously relies on him the most. and yes jungwon finds jay really entertaining and interesting and fun — it's their differing perspectives on each other yet near-equal reciprocation that makes jaywon so fun.
then, during a fansign, jay got asked why he said jungwon was his lifeline. tbh it's a little difficult to parse because jay had to speak in english (and also like... i am intensely sleep deprived rn) but here's what i think is being said.

yes i've listened to this like ten times and i'm still not 100% sure of what is being said T___T but i think that he meant that during i-land he'd been cut off from the outside world and didn't have access to friends/family so he relied on jungwon as a result. which is just soo heartwarming and compelling... something about these two looking out for each other even during a cursed survival show... etc. anyways, pretty soon after that, jungwon got asked something similar:

for some reason i find jungwon's answers about jay so fascinating because they contain this degree of self-awareness and nuance that you don't really see when enhypen members talk about their interpersonal relationships. like jungwon saying that he'd essentially taken jay for granted until they had been separated during i-land and, as a result, understands how much jay means to him now IS SO CRASYY T___T jungwon is so thoughtful about what he says about jay and despite his relative lack of effusiveness i think the extent to which he cares about jay is made really clear through moments like these.
[EPISODE] 2020 SBS κ°μλμ
i don't think i've ever experienced a video with as much jaywon craziness as this one! for context: enhypen are preparing for their sbs gayo daejeon stage, where jay and jungwon perform a stunt together — the episode contains practice footage and backstage moments, too.
backstage, jungwon is discussing his hairstyle — he likes having straighter hair, or something — and then jay like pulls up an example photo within like two seconds OUT OF NOWHERE?
which is like... okay maybe that's not a big deal. but i still think it's cute <3 then, all of the footage related to jay and jungwon practicing their stunt together make it clear a) how difficult the stunt is and b) how much they have to trust and rely on each other to pull it off.
this conversation in particular, during which they're discussing the stunt, stood out to me:

LIKE jay is so clearly concerned about jungwon here and jungwon's worried about being able to support jay in return. their mutual dependence and support of each other is so clear and true here T___T then, later on in the episode, jungwon's teasing jay as per usual. he brings up rock-chic at first, and then goes on to make fun of jay's dad jokes:

i felt compelled to include the editor's captions while copying over the subtitles because, genuinely, jay does think that jungwon playing jokes is so cute. LIKE LOOK AT HIS FACE... why is he so gone for yangjungwon.
i think the enhypen fandom tends to have a lot of discourse over jay being "made fun of" by enhypen members, but it's so clear here that jay adores jungwon and finds all of his teasing really funny? like jay is in on the joke and even if he's the butt of teasing he's fine with it here, when it's jungwon instigating. speaking of which, why is jungwon So Obsessed With Teasing Jay... this video is literally nine minutes long but jungwon made fun of jay multiple times here?? and do i even have to get into the haptics and proxemics and PARALANGUAGE of jay immediately reaching for jungwon as soon as jungwon finishes making fun of him T___T THEY'RE JUST SO CUTE. sorry i feel like this primer was supposed to have deeper_insights into jaywonism but sometimes... sometimes it's just there in front of you staring you in the face. that is all <3

ah yes... another jaywon video masquerading as an enhypen video. like first of all jay and jungwon have this extremely drawn-out conversation about the air-fryer that jungwon bought him and how surprised jay had been to get the present:

jungwon, during that video, had also gotten a mission to make the other members poke his dimples. as a result, at one point jungwon grabs jay's arm and tries to wrestle him/force his hand into poking jungwon's cheek... and the whole tussle ends in a) jungwon losing and b) jay back-hugging jungwon in retaliation??? and also slapping his butt???
and later on jungwon (and sunoo) gang up on jay and try to make him do aegyo but it doesn't really work — jay refuses to act cute for them. jungwon and sunoo literally walk away from jay after that BUT THEN jungwon comes back just to smile at jay again?? LIKE WHAT IS GOING ON HERE... something about jungwon returning specifically to smile at jay and be "excited" is so endearing? i think it shows how jungwon strikes a careful balance of teasing jay without taking it too far.
sorry i'm just obsessed with the captioning [referring to JUNGWON being an ace at... teasing jay] and the lighting and the dynamics <3 it's another perfect example of jungwon having fun with jay.
there's also some other more minor stuff in the video (jaywon playing rock, paper, scissors, for example) that i urge you to check out... like seriously this video is 1/3 jaywon propaganda for no reason! it's so good!!
EN-O'CLOCK: TIME FOR JAYWONISM
okay, to be fair, a lot of the jaywon interactions that happen in en-o'clock are very blink-and-you'll-miss-it or not very unique/remarkable in the scheme of things, but i do want to point out two moments that especially stood out to me.
episode 1: the cactus incident
during en-o'clock episode 1, all of the members had to take tests on each other. the question that jungwon was grading the other members on was "what is something that jungwon does every month?"

π: the answer is... watering the cactus [jay got it correct]

for the record none of the members got the answer to this question right except for jay... and jay was so certain about his answer that he wrote "i'm right" on his sheet of paper. and then, when PRESSED FURTHER, jay doesn't fold — he literally knows that the cactus is from rm and the names of the cacti??
like WHY is this man a walking yangjungwon encyclopedia... the extent to which jay knows jungwon and feels confident about how much he knows about jungwon is just endlessly compelling to me... anyone else think that TO BE KNOWN IS TO BE LOVED? NO? just me? okay. but seriously i want to stress that no one knew the answer to the basic question whereas jay knew the answer to both the initial question And all of the follow-ups... he was crazy for this one.
episode 4: inner peace
in one of the most questionable episodes of en-o'clock yet, the enhypen members go FISHING. and tbh like 80% of this episode is enhypen being really bad at fishing and getting frustrated. but then, right in the middle of it all, we have jay and jungwon ENJOYING THE QUIET right next to each other?

like jay repeating himself 73957 times that he's Relaxed and Happy because it's quiet... the subtle intimacy of sharing that quietness with another person... jaywon sharing a "healing" moment and then jungwon teasing jay for being an old man like minutes later... it's actually perfect to me. the epitome of romance, if you will.
okay and jungwon teasing jay during en-o'clock episode 7 is really nothing new but i'm going to link it regardless because jungwon's fixation on jay felt Especially strong that episode LOL. why is jaywon so endlessly satisfying... the gift that keeps on giving... etc.
TWO ARMYS MAXIMIZING THEIR JOINT SLAY
i mentioned earlier that jay is probably the biggest #ARMY out of all of the enhypen members. for some reason (i think we all know the reason) jungwon is actually really aware of jay's army moments. for example, while jay, jungwon, and sunghoon were going to buy copies of border: day one, jay mentions how he bought the wings album at the time:

anyone else think that jay and jungwon getting a BTS MEAL TOGETHER is that serious? like no i guess this doesn't matter that much in the scheme of things but also the significance of noted "park army" sitting right next to yangjungwon as he takes those borahae forever bts meal selfies is like. WELL I THINK IT'S PRETTY IMPORTANT AND EMOTIONALLY GRIPPING! but maybe that's just me. also yangjungwon is so cute here which is an added bonus ^_^
MORE CUTE THINGS
none of these are particularly important "moments" and it's honestly just the beginning when it comes to jaywon But this is my primer and i feel like mentioning these things, so... yeah. i think most jaywon shippers have seen this photo of them from given-taken era:

so yeah, to conclude... JAYWON IS THAT SERIOUS. i honestly don't have that much to say, though. when i first started out with this primer i was honestly worried that i wouldn't have much to talk about because a lot of jaywon's affection and care for each other is pretty obvious and visible to anyone with even a surface-level understanding of enhypen. however i do think there are some nuances to their dynamic that are worth being explored more often, even if jaywon seems like a classic case of hyung_who_is_whipped_for_his_dongsaeng LOL. i hope this has convinced people that jaywon is not side ship material... they are THE MAIN EVENT!!!! like come on aren't we all jaywon shippers deep down inside T__T
